Overview

Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya, is a vibrant country located in East Africa, bordered by the Indian Ocean to the southeast. It covers an area of 582,646 square kilometers and has a diverse geography that includes coastal plains, plateaus, and the Great Rift Valley. The capital city, Nairobi, serves as a major economic hub and is home to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the busiest in East and Central Africa.

Kenya's population exceeds 52 million, comprising over 40 ethnic groups and more than 60 languages spoken across the nation. This cultural diversity is reflected in its rich traditions, music, and cuisine. The country is renowned for its wildlife and natural beauty, with numerous national parks and reserves such as Maasai Mara and Amboseli, attracting millions of tourists annually for safaris and eco-tourism. Historically, Kenya was a British colony until gaining independence in 1963. Since then, it has developed into a presidential representative democratic republic. The economy is one of the largest in East Africa, driven by agriculture—particularly tea and coffee production—and a growing service sector focused on tourism. Kenya's climate varies from tropical along the coast to temperate in the highlands, making it suitable for diverse ecosystems. The country's rich history as a crossroads of trade and culture continues to influence its dynamic society today.
