Wild Tanzania (6N / 7D)

Overview

Tanzania, a jewel in East Africa, offers an unparalleled wildlife experience that captivates nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. This vast country boasts some of the continent's most iconic landscapes and biodiversity hotspots. At the heart of Tanzania's wild allure is the Serengeti National Park, famous for the Great Migration.

Each year, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse its plains in a spectacular display of nature's rhythms. The adjacent Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, serves as a natural enclosure for diverse wildlife, including the endangered black rhino. Tanzania's wildlife wonders extend beyond these famous sites. Tarangire National Park is renowned for its elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Ruaha National Park, lesser-known but equally mesmerizing, offers a more secluded safari experience with its large predator populations. For primate enthusiasts, the Mahale Mountains and Gombe Stream National Parks provide opportunities to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The country's eastern coast, including Zanzibar, offers a different kind of wild – with pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. Tanzania's commitment to conservation is evident in its extensive network of protected areas, covering about a third of its landmass. This dedication ensures that future generations can continue to marvel at the country's natural treasures. From the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro to the golden savannas and azure coastlines, Wild Tanzania promises an unforgettable journey through one of Africa's last great wildernesses.

Itinerary

Day 01 - Arusha Your Tanzanian safari begins as you arrive in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania's northern safari circuit. After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing and resting from your journey. If time permits, you might take a stroll around Arusha's bustling streets, getting a taste of local life. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel, where you'll be briefed about your upcoming safari adventure.

Day 02 - Arusha to Lake Manyara After breakfast, depart Arusha for Lake Manyara National Park. The drive takes you through the scenic Maasai steppe, dotted with picturesque African villages. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Known for its elephants and tree-climbing lions, the park also boasts a variety of ecosystems, from its soda lake to dense woodlands. Watch for hippos, impalas, and the park's famous flamingos. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03 - Lake Manyara to Serengeti Start early with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a long but scenic drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. En route, you'll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, catching your first glimpses of the incredible African savannah. Enter Serengeti National Park through the less-visited western corridor, game viewing along the way. Arrive at your camp or lodge in time for a late lunch. In the afternoon, embark on your first Serengeti game drive, witnessing the park's abundant wildlife in their natural habitat. Return to camp for dinner and overnight, falling asleep to the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 04 - Serengeti Dedicate a full day to exploring the vast Serengeti. Start with an early morning game drive when predators are most active. Return to camp for breakfast and a short rest. After lunch, head out again for an afternoon game drive. The Serengeti is home to the highest concentration of large mammals on Earth, including large prides of lions, herds of elephants, giraffes, and, depending on the season, the spectacular wildebeest migration. Your expert guide will help you spot and identify the diverse wildlife. End the day with a sundowner before dinner at your camp.

Day 05 - Serengeti Another full day in the Serengeti allows you to explore different areas of this massive park. Consider taking a packed breakfast for an extended morning game drive, venturing into areas farther from your camp. In the afternoon, you might opt for a visit to a Maasai village to learn about the traditional lifestyle of these iconic pastoralists. Alternatively, if available, take a hot air balloon ride at dawn for a breathtaking aerial view of the Serengeti (additional cost). End your day with a special bush dinner under the African stars.

Day 06 - Serengeti to Ngorongoro After an early breakfast, enjoy a final game drive in the Serengeti as you make your way towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The journey offers last chances to spot Serengeti wildlife. Arrive at your lodge on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in time for lunch. In the afternoon, relax at the lodge, taking in the spectacular views of the crater below. You might choose to visit a nearby Maasai village or take a guided nature walk along the crater rim. Enjoy dinner at your lodge, anticipating the next day's crater exploration.

Day 07 - Ngorongoro Crater and Departure Rise early for breakfast before descending into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day tour. Often described as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World', this natural amphitheater is a haven for wildlife, including the rare black rhino. After a picnic lunch in the crater, ascend back to the rim and begin your journey back to Arusha. Depending on your flight schedule, you might have time for some souvenir shopping in Arusha before transferring to the airport for your departure flight.
